(19 June 2025, Manila) - The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO) has announced that it has acquired 12 hectares of land in Casiguran for the upgrading of an existing airstrip into a commercial airport, which is expected to significantly enhance the region's connectivity with global markets.
On June 17, APECO President and CEO Atty. Gil G. Taway IV signed an agreement with the landowners for 5.2 hectares of donated land and 6.8 hectares of acquired land. Taway said the purchase price was 50% lower than the market valuation, saving the government a lot of money.
Ater completion, the airport will be directly connected to the northeastern economic corridor of Luzon Island, promoting the development of business, tourism, and cargo transportation as well as create local employment opportunities. In February 2025, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has completed the airport assessment and is expediting the issuance of operating licenses.
"This will not only be a gateway to Aurora, but also a gateway to new opportunities in the Philippines," Taway said.
